I really really appreciate this comment--I'm usually the one who writes Cox, and I've always sort of wondered if people think I write him too nice. The spin I take on Perry Cox is based largely on his moments of solemnity. Sure, he can be a sarcastic ass when he wants to be--and often times he is--but there's a genuine person down there, too. And given reason, and patience, I think we could see it develop into a relatively decent human being.
In this particular story, as well, this JD is someone Perry Cox can relate to. This JD has seen disappointment. He knows the bitter taste of failure. He understands what it's like to lay your hopes on the line and have them snatched away. In short, this is a JD Perry recognizes himself in. And I think as much as he might have wanted to take him down a notch or two when JD was an intern, Perry never, ever wanted to see JD's dreams crushed this way. Seeing him so subdued and serious has sort of made Perry realize just how badly he wants to see the bounce back in his step, the sparkle in his eye...it's why he says it's a shame JD no longer daydreams, I think.
LOL Pardon me while I analyze the character at you. ^^; In short: Glad you like it! :D
